Shared borders have disappeared

Hi

I am so glad I found this forum as my provider will not reply to my query
and it's driving me nuts. I have a web site and a sub site built in
Frontpage 2003. Had no prolems until 2 weeks ago and I started to get a
message when I tried to upload saying "Unable to open (name of website) The
server sent a mesage which Frontpage could not parse. It goes on to say that
the server may not have Frontpage extensions installed. I have gone onto my
host (Centrica) support site and tried to uninstall the Frontpage extensions
but it always comes up with an error message - xx file could not be deleted.
However it will tell me that it has successfully reinstalled the frontpage
extensions .... but still will not work. SO all my shared borders are
missing and I cannot amend my sites in any way. My provider is Centrica -
has anyone any suggestions PLEASE!

Change to a `better' provider?

Re: Shared borders have disappeared

So Malcolm - is it not something I can control - is it definitely the
provider? They have no telephone support and brag on their website that they
have 24/7 email response for tech support - not my experience at all - i have
posted at least 10 messages on their support page and not had a reply yet! I
was worried that I may have inadvertently done something wrong.

Re: Shared borders have disappeared

When I read you first message I recalled that last year when setting up
a small business Web site I had problems with the first two hosting
providers I signed up with before settling with a third. The problems I
experienced were entirely to do with inadequacies in the installation
and maintenance of the FrontPage Extensions. With the third host I have
full control over the FPSEs and a lot more facilities as well.

The details you gave of your difficulties led me to make the suggestion
that you seek another provide. Particularly if through the access you
have you cannot uninstall the extensions to install them anew. Your
provider is taking your money for facilities that are not available to
you. You said they wont respond to your multiple pleas for assistance
so what is the alternative?
