Hit counter stays at 1

I have FP2003 and 2002 server extension installed. I am trying to add a hit
counter to an intranet built on an internal network but the counter always
stays at 1.

Is there any way to fix this?

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

The hit counter should put a file into a directory called _private. This
file will have the same name as the page it is included in, but it will have
a .cnt extension. If the anonymous user (IUSR on windows) account doesn't
have permissions to write to this directory, or the file, it will probably
stick at one since the hit counter script can't update the value in the
file.

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

I tried that and it still isn't working. The file in the private directory
has a red x on it, does that mean something?

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

Contact your web host and ask theme to run a server health check and allow FP to correct/reset the
permissions on the site.

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

There is no web host, it's an internal intranet. I did what you suggested
and it still doesn't work right.

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

That means it is set to "do not publish" so that it doesn't over write
the one on the server when ever you publish / update your web.

It sounds like you need to have the IT folks enable "server write"
permissions for the _private folder.

Re: Hit counter stays at 1

I am IT and I did set that permission for the iusr account. The red x has
gone now.

The .cnt file is showing under properties that it's an unknown file type.
Is something maybe not installed propely?

How are you viewing the file when it displays unknown file type?
