Problems with trying to use a Word Documenet on my website

Hi.

I tried to put a microsoft word .doc file onto my website.
I saved the word doc in my frontpage folder and created a link to it from a htm page.
When I uploaded it and clicked on the link to the word doc I was expecting it to be loaded in word or give me the option to download it. However I got a dialog box with my ISP user name filled in and a prompt for a password!

When I selected cancel the text was loaded in IE7.

Is this caused by my ISP or am I doing something wrong when I added the word file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problems with trying to use a Word Documenet on my website

It's happening because you are trying to open the file using the same PC
that you use to manage the web site. It won't happen to other people on
their PCs.

How does that happen and why, Kat? I've got several word documents on
several sites, and have never had that issue.

Re: Problems with trying to use a Word Documenet on my website

There was / is a bug in certain version(s) - don't remember which one(s) of
Word that cause this behavior.

The only fix is for your users to install a patch or upgrade their version
of Word.

Re: Problems with trying to use a Word Documenet on my website

I don't know what causes it. I do know that if you delete the entry for the
web site from My Network Places, the problem goes away. But the next time
you open the web in FP, the entry gets created again.

Re: Problems with trying to use a Word Documenet on my website

Bob:
There was/is a similar problem with Office 2000 (You Are Prompted for a
Password When You Open an Office Document in a Browser (Q225234):
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q2252 34 )

I still have this problem on a PC running Office XP and FrontPage 2003.
