files in "my web sites" folder

Inside the "My Web Sites" folder is a list of various web sites (no surprise
there!). However, there are also 2 hidden folders, called _vti_cnf and
_vti_pvt. I think they may have been put there during one of the FrontPage
tutorials, but I'm not sure. The cnf folder is empty, but the pvt folder has
6 files in it. Each web site in that folder has their own copy of these two
folders, so that's why I think they came from a tutorial.
How do I know if it's okay to delete these files, without actually deleting
them?
Thanks for any help!

Re: files in "my web sites" folder

The _vti files are use by FrontPage to manage the meta data of the web.

Re: files in "my web sites" folder

Right, I understand that. But as they are outside any of the folders
containing actual web sites, I don't think I need them, do I? They are just
in the folder called "my web sites".

Re: files in "my web sites" folder

If the "actual" web sites are located under "My Web Sites", then My Web Site is also a web and
should have a globe on the folder, the same as the web sites located under it.

Re: files in "my web sites" folder

I'm sorry, I don't understand how that follows. I thought "My Web Sites" was
just a folder, located inside the "My Documents" folder, where I store a
local copy of my web sites. It does not have a globe symbol on it.

Perhaps I didn't explain well enough in my original post? I'm talking about
the local copy of the web sites I work on, and my local backup copies, on my
own computer. Not a folder on a web server.

Sorry for the confusion.

No, none of the folders under My Documents have a globe. Just the folders
inside the "My Web Sites" folder.

Re: files in "my web sites" folder

If your My Web Site folder has _vti folders, then at some point it was opened as a web via FP. I
would not delete any of the _vti folders.
