Cannot close local website or exit FP 2003

I am not able to exit from FP after editing my webpages. I downloaded the web
site from our Yahoo server site and was able to open up on the pages and edit
them as needed. I saved (saved, saved) the site and also "saved as" each page.

When I went to publish the site back on Yahoo I received the message: Cannot
open we80.cnf. No such file or folder.

I also cannot close any of the pages I have edited nor can I exit FP. I have
left the program open for the past three days. I am afraid I will lose all of
my edits.

Thanks for your help.

How did you "download" the site?

Re: Cannot close local website or exit FP 2003

I downloaded the site in FP using File | Import. I believe I used the http
option, but am not sure. C.

Re: Cannot close local website or exit FP 2003

You need to publish the site to your PC.

First, open the live site on the server (File > Open > Site)

Type in the http:// address of the web site, and then the username and
password credentials for the user/hosting account for that site.

Then go to File > Publish Site...

And sit back and relax while it publishes (transfers) all files down to a
location you specify int he "remote site properties" - this doesn't have to
be a web address, it can be a folder on your local hard drive.

Note "remote" and "local" are not referred to in terms of physical location;
the web that is open is the "Local Web" and the one you publish to is the
"Remote Web"

If you open the live site - that is the "local" web and your PC is the
"remote" machine in this context.

Note, the import command is not intended for the purpose you're using it
for.

Re: Cannot close local website or exit FP 2003

Andrew, in FP I went to File and Opensite and when I entered the
http://website name, it appeared to be loading, but then I received a message:
folder is not accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable
location protected with a password or filename contains a / or \.
I know I need a password but it never asked me for the password. I still
cannot close FP and I do not want to lose all of my changes. Help! Thanks.

Re: Cannot close local website or exit FP 2003

To save your work, switch to Code or HTML view, and copy and paste the
HTML code to new notepad text files. Save the notepad files to your
desktop (or some other folder).

Then concentrate on opening the website. You will have to shut down
FrontPage, then check the extensions on the web site, delete web cache
files and FrontPage temporary files. FP Clean from
http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm will help with the last 2
operations, the extensions check will have to be done by your host.
