I have a large discussion board built with FrontPage 2003 at www.occ-doc.net.
I had deleted some postings (pages) but the "Search" function continued
identifying those deleted pages. So, as in the past, I opened that site and
tried the "recalculate hyperlinks" utility with FP 2003. It has worked in
the past - it has cleaned up the site so that the search utility only found
existing page in the site. But, this time, and repeated times, I got the
following error message repeated twice with each attempt: "The server sent a
response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are trying to connect..." I
downloaded a trial version of Expression Web and tried to recalculate
hyperlinks but got the same error messages. The Search function now just
pulls up an error page. I'm assuming the recalculation of hyperlinks
involves creation of a search directory on my PC, and my PC is then trying to
post that search directory on the web page without success. What do you
suggest? I'd like to restore the search function on this web page.

Run the functions that clear:
The Hidden Temporary files.
The Hidden Cache (*.web) files.
Then recalculate hyperlinks

Then if you have the web masters control panel for your site,
rebuild the search index, by going to the CGI center,
( if you are using the server side search )

If you are not using an Index Catalog
- see Info on what is updated on your server by your search indices w/ FP & how to clear/reset them can be found at:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q170/9/75.a sp

PS
You should not ever delete posts from a DW
- it will corrupt your DW indexes
- edit them to just say "post deleted"

I'm back again, same problem. I've run fpclean.exe to clear cache and remove
temp files. It seems to do something, I would assume to files on my hard
drive and not to the remotely hosted web site. When I try to recalculate
hyperlinks on the remotely hosted web site, the system times out
(repeatedly). Also, I lose access to the web site and have to uninstall and
reinstall FrontPage extensions to again get access.

Right now, search functionality on the remotely hosted web site isn't
working. I assume that in the midst of recalculating hyperlinks, the program
removed the existing search index and then failed to reinstall a working
index and instead timed out.
