On a stable long running system, aliases db rebuilds fail with error
"cannot alias non-local names" for all aliases but one, namely
'postmaster: root'. Syslog entries of "NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root):
/etc/aliases:
line 48: info... cannot alias non-local names", etc. Running sendmail
-bi
yields the same results. All RH names are in the PW file, I can't spot
any
changes to sendmail related files.

Please post the results of :

cat -n /etc/mail/aliases | grep 48
