I have several databases that more than one family member needs to use
on the same PC (Windows XP/FMP v9).

Whenever they try to add records when signed on under their own user
name, they get a message that the file is not modifiable. I've set up
a Guest to have full access, but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a
way of them having full access without having to enter a password?

I can't see a reason why the "File is not modifiable", unless the file
has been transferred by CD or locked in some other way.

Another possibility is if you're using a computer that has multiple
login user operating system accounts. The file may not have its
privileges set for other users - just the "owner".

Are you sure you don't mean "FIELD is not modifiable". Users will get
that message if they try to type into Calculation fields - often
something done by newbie / untrained users.


Otherwise, you could try setting up a password with full access and
change the file's preferences to try using that password when opening.
You can hold down the Option key on the Mac (Control for Windows?) and
the file will ask for another password.

Of course, if you're allowing Guest to have full access or an opening
password to have full access, then why bother with the security at
all?? You may as well just leave the file unprotected.
