Accidently Deleted a Table
Ok, a customer accidently deleted a table from a FM 8.5 database. I
have a back up copy of the database but not a copy of the original
excel file used to create the table. I cannot deploy the back up copy
of the database because the customer has made extensive changes to the
database and all the info would be lost.
I would like to replace the missing table and I tried creating a new
layout and putting in all the fields of the back up table and I got a
message stating that the data would be truncated.
The numbers are a mess and the data doesn't make sense.
Does anyone know how to copy a table and put into another database?
Thanks!

You are going to change your backup strategy after this experience ...

If all you've done is delete a Layout or Portal then all the data is
still there and the Layout / Portal will need to be recreated and using
the appropriate table data.
If on the other hand you have deleted the actual data table itself then
you've also deleted the data and almost certainly can't get it back
again.
Using the Recover option from within FileMaker and saving the recovered
file to a new filename could be worth a try, but I doubt it will work.
This option is to recover crashed files, not accidently or purposely
deleted data.
Technically (some of) the data MIGHT still be in the file, but the only
people who MIGHT be able to help will be the technicians at FileMaker
Inc. If you've used the Save As Compressed option, then even that slim
chance is gone.
Unfortunately I wouldn't hold your breath for a miracle and prepare
yourself for a few long days of work - something most of us have
probably had to do at some stage. :o(

Why'd you let a user have access to Define Database?

Hi! it is part of our business practice to let the users do with the
databases what they want and then we clean up the messes.
I was able to import the table I needed from the backed up copy after
spending hours of exporting and recreating.
It was very simple afterall.
Thanks for all of your help.
