Flash, specifically used in my web form: LAMP FX is the be all and end
all solution to web design...at least at present. Java and to a
lesser extent VB is the ONLY real POSSIBLE contender (although at
present both of those don't even come close to matching what Flash can
do).
Check out my undefeatable list:
1. support of 32 bit JPEGs
2. fully cross operating system compatible
3. fully cross browser compatible
4. support of the On2 VP6 codec
5. support of color matrices
6. support of audio spectrum analysis
7. support of alpha transparent video
8. fully cross browser support of alpha transparent PNG files
(possible with a bunch of extra Javascript…even then though there are
compatibility issues)
9. ability to track the number of bytes loaded on a particular object
10. the ability to dynamically control the loading of media files
(could be done in Javascript but not as easily and less efficiently)
11. direct connection to ports with the ability to “talk” directly
with a particular protocols language
12. ability to analyze and manipulate image pixel data in a whole
variety of ways. (only Java is comparable in that respect)
13. ability to stop a media file from being loaded during the loading
process
14. ability to control the resizing of elements, being able to turn on
and off smoothing for specific elements and making use of bilinear and
bicubic resampling. (can be done with a combination of PHP and
javascript, but it less cross browser compatible and uses 10 times the
amount of server resources and is about 700% slower, even with server
side image caching.)
15. fully custom cursors (can be done with SOME versions of IE using
CSS, but even then yer limited to cur files and can’t use larger
images)
16. custom context menus
17. custom scroll bars
18. FIFTY TIMES FASTER than javascript
19. custom video/audio controls (can be done ~somewhat~ with
javascript but ONLY with certain browsers like IE…and even then with
only about half the functionality that you can get with Flash, like
you can’t track how much has been loaded/streamed and you can’t track
the play positioning)
20. direct support, creation and control over vector based graphics
There’s TWENTY different things that can ONLY be done with Flash.
There’s a couple that ~sorta~ can be done without it…but only if you
want to make your sites so that they only function on Internet
Explorer…and even then you can’t get ALL the functionality that Flash
offers.
Even for just a PLAIN TEXT site my form is VASTLY superior to using
HTML and CSS; mostly cause you can use embedded fonts, you can have
liquid sizable text as opposed to just liquid space stretched text and
you get proper font antialiasing in Flash.
The ONLY reason for NOT using my form...is deficiency and ignorance.
Unless of course you'd like to try and claim that there's something
ANOTHER form could do that mine can't...LOL...sometimes I get a kick
out of asking the impossible from the lessers. ^_^

The only thing I'm lacking is people who can formulate a counter

Not really...in fact functional wise on her main site is
just...horrible. She has plain text links that don't even look like
links (she took off the underlining) and the only indication that they
are links is that there's a color change when you roll the mouse
over...which is just plainly fucking retarded because then you have to
roll the gawd damn mouse over EVERY piece of text, trying to find out
what is and what isn't a link. Furthermore, it's quite common for
sites to put their navigation bars up at the top, the first thing
people are gonna do is start tryin to click on that text at the top,
thinkin that's the nav. There's also no real description of what the
site is offering, the first thing that pops up is crappy examples of
work that she's done...normally you would want to list those in a
SEPARATE section. The FIRST thing that should come up with a welcome
type screen that tells visitors what the hell it is you're offering
and a brief description as to WHY they should choose YOUR business
over someone else's. Then you should have another section that goes
into more details about what it is you're offering and why it's
superior to what others are offering.
>spartan
No, THIS is spartan:
http://www.csszengarden.com/
(seems to be down at the moment, but it should be back up later)
Mara's site:
http://www.helloworldwebdesign.com/
Is just plain DEFICIENCY of style. Not having a style doesn't mean
that you have a minimalist style, it just means YOU DON'T HAVE A
FUCKING STYLE, ya fuckin retard.
>and CSS compliant.
Which means nothing. Adhering to the W3Cs RECOMMENDATIONS in NO WAY
equates to cross browser or cross operating system compatibility...in
fact what's interesting is that all to often the MOST compatible
methods are the most rejected methods by the W3C and the MOST
INCOMPATIBLE methods are the most ACCEPTED methods by the W3C. Simply
put, anyone who puts a lot of stock into adhering to the W3Cs line of
stupidity is an IDIOT.
>Oh - and they don't require some

The Flash plugin is now required for a good 70% of all the content
available online. And saying it's "third party" makes about as much
sense as saying that Firefox is "third party" in that it didn't come
prepackaged with Windows. Coincidentally child, Flash *IS*
prepackaged with most all modern browsers...so yer full of shit again.
^_^
Oh hey...if you haven't already (don't worry, yer slow, I'm sure it

Quite many (most) operating systems that don't have flash support, yes, you
have gplflash and gnash, but not usable.
Even if GNU/Linux x86 has a flash plugin, it do not have the same features as
the one written for microsoft, so many flash based sites just don't work well
and many times don't work at all.
With other words, flash suxx for web design if you want people to be able to
use the site.
Server side scripting that generates w3c valid output is the only that is
really cross operatingsystem/browser compatible.

Sorry, Deficient, but yer about 5 months the fuck out of date:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html
Adobe/Macromedia released a beta version of Flash 9 for Linux back in
November I believe and so far it hasn't choked on anything I've thrown
at it so unless you can provide ACTUAL PROOF that there are SPECIFIC
things which won't work on the beta release...well, mayhaps you should
shut yourself the fuck up until you manage to formulate a coherent
counter argument. Fu
>With other words, flash suxx for web design if you want people to be able to

WRONG!
Flash, even the latest versions work on anything, Mac, Windows, Linux
with ALL the mainstream browsers including IE, Netscape, Firefox,
Opera, Konqueror, Safari, etc. About the only thing it doesn't work
on is Linx...and that's half the reason you include a plain text fall
back version of the site (the other half is for the few remaining
deficient search engines that can't spider the text content of Flash
files).
....of course, I haven't ACTUALLY checked out Linx in some time, so for
all I know they can now display the text content of Flash files, or
even if Linx can't I wouldn't be surprised if there was another text
based browser that could. I'm not a blind person or a wannabe blind
person (the Amish of the Internet) so I don't really know, which is
why I still take the bother to throw in a plain text fall back version
of the site.
>Server side scripting that generates w3c valid output is the only that is

Except that W3C compliancy in NO WAY equates to cross browser and
cross operating system compatibility because NO BROWSER actually pays
any attention AT ALL to the W3Cs line of idiocy and NO BROWSER comes
anywhere the fuck even remotely CLOSE to adhering to their
RECOMMENDATIONS. Unless all the browser makers magically decide to
actually meet all of the W3Cs recommendations then THERE IS NO WAY for
W3C compliant code to be cross browser and cross operating system
compatible.
....you know, it's funny...cause I could have SWORN I brought up most
of this IN MY LAST POST...I guess maybe you just weren't paying the
fuck attention, huh kiddo? Maybe someone just needs to bend you the
fuck over their knee and start BEATING reality into you...ya
know...cause otherwise...I just don't think yer gonna get it, not with

1. The beta 9 don't work on all sites, two examples are Media Markt
Scandinavia and Svenskaspel.
2. Still there is no Flash GNU/Linux AMD64, GNU/Linux PowerPC, GNU/Linux
PowerPC 64bit, GNU/Linux Sparc, GNU/Linux Alpha, GNU/Linux Mips, GNU/Linux
mc68k... the list could go on for quite long just to cover all GNU/Linux
architectures and then add on other operating systems like QNX, BeOS, HaikuOS
and so on.

Even using a broken browser, you will get a usable site, even if it don't look
pretty, while if you don't have a flash plug-in, you can't use a flash based
site at all.

Uh...those aren't Flash sites you fucking doorknob. They have some
Flash bits IN THEM...although the reason they're not working on Linux
has NOTHING to do with Flash so much as the HTML code that's putting
them out. Specifically nyah:
: src="/ent/teaser_games.swf?d=teaser.games.xml&l=/ent/games/
Oh yeah, that's fucking brilliant right there. I'd like to find the
cookie cutter making doorknob who came up with that bit of retarded
just so I can bitch slap them real good.
Further, next time, before you look stupid, CHECK THE VERSION you
stupid retard. All the Flash content on those two sites doesn't even
clock past version 7 and there's a FULLY working, non beta version of
Flash 7 already available for Linux.

Um, hello, retard, the Flash 9 for Linux beta version will work on ALL
FORMS OF LINUX...well unless maybe it's some specialized off the wall
piece of shit that no one has even heard of that wasn't even designed
for use as a desktop environment.
>and then add on other operating systems like QNX, BeOS, HaikuOS
>and so on.
Again, how fucking stupid are you? I mean like BeOS, that's NOT a
desktop environment for end users, that's a SPECIALIZED OS used in
media appliances. If you're trying to use BeOS as a desktop
environment to surf the Internet and run Microsoft Word 'n shit yer an
even bigger retard than I first suspected. I mean hells bells,
Junior, you might just as well be whining that there's no Flash
version for yer fuckin Commodore 64 you stupid jackass.

Ahhh but breaking Flash is usually dependant upon broken HTML code.
And going by the W3C School's site (which is actually targeted towards
NON mainstream, Windows/IE users):
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
Linux is faltering at only 3.5% and FALLING...platforms that count for
less than 0.5% aren't listed. In other words, by choosing a site form
which gives you near limitless options as far as multimedia based
content you're only looking at around a 1 to 2 percent POTENTIAL loss
in visitors. Of course that's assuming that, that 1 to 2 percent
would even visit your site if it was all plain text...and that's a bit
of a stretch. Realistically you're not looking at any sort of loss,
but hey, I'm tryin to humor your deficiency here. ^_^
....not that it's even relevant since my site form INCLUDES a plain
text fall back version. Go visit my main Backwater site with Linx, or
just turn off Javascript and such, the plain text version will pop
right up.
The main point though is that you shouldn't bother to try and "pretty
up" the plain text using CSS and shit. If you want a DESIGN and
MULTIMEDIA then do it in Flash, don't try and retard off the lesser
solution. If the Amish of the Internet want plain text, fine, give
them plain text, but don't give those stupid assholes any more than
that at the expense of what you could be offering those who WANT the
design rich environment, because there's no real reason for it outside
of catering to stupidity (cause if they really wanted more than plain
text they could get a REAL browser like Konqueror, Firefox, Internet
Explorer, etc).

There is the key word "BETA" and it DOES NOT work on every site or with
all browsers. I know it does NOT work on my FireFox2.0 on the linux
system I am using There are many sites that it works fine on, but there
are those that it just closes out the browser!
version of Flash 9 for Linux back in

So you have tested the BETA version of Flash on all the different linux
versions huh? I didn't think so.

Perhaps you have better check again before spewing such bullshit. IT
DOES NOT work on all linux distros.
About the only thing it doesn't work
> on is Linx...
And in you above statement you specifically said that it worked with
Linux. Which is it? It either does or it doesn't? Perhaps that is why
it is called a BETA version.
and that's half the reason you include a plain text fall

Oh FWIW your site http://www.backwater-productions.net causes my FireFox
2.0 to crash when trying to load. And yes I have the Flash Beta version
for linux loaded.

Uh, hello, reality calling retard, how could I post PART OF THEIR
SITES SOURCE CODE if I hadn't been there? DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM
....seriously, do you EVER stop looking stupid? And ya know, NORMALLY,
when you look stupid THE FIRST TIME...you learn to shut yourself the
fuck up...where as with you, well, apparently yer too gawd damn Jesus
raping stupid to know when to quit.
Oh and btw, Retardo, someone using Linux has already said that they
had no problem at all with the Flash content on those sites (despite
the quirky malformed get variable links) so what now, Stupid? Seems
to me that yer just one of these retards whose using Linux who doesn't
ACTUALLY know how to use Linux. See the thing is, IF you have the
skill, IF you have the understanding, IF you have the expertise...you
CAN actually setup Linux to work as a fairly reliable desktop
environment...but that task really isn't suited to lessers like
yourself who can't even manage to get the Flash plugin installed fer
fuck sake.

I love to beat you with reality, so I guess now is a good time that
you haven't ACTUALLY posted ANY proof of your CLAIMS that it doesn't
work on those various Linux flavors. Hell before THIS thread YOU
DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A VERSION 9 FOR LINUX...not to mention the
fact that you've ALREADY BEEN PROVEN WRONG by PerfectReign. Oh hey,
maybe you can make like Stevie the Wonder Retard and just start

Not to mention if you are using a 64bit browser (even IE) there is NO
FLASH SUPPORT. There's no 64bit Flash player yet, and you cannot use
32Bit plugins in IE7 64bit under Vista, and there's no 64bit player for
OS X either.
Adobe really need to get a 64bit player out NOW. PLEASE!

Well first of all Vista hasn't even been released yet aside from BETA
VERSIONS and won't be until another 13 days or so. And considering
how much Flash content is on the Windows Vista prop page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/
....yeah...I'm thinkin the release version won't have any problems at
all handling Flash content or 32 bit plugins...uh, that's ASSuming of
course that you didn't just screw it up somehow or didn't know what
you were doing and missed some setting or something that lets you use
32 bit plugins in the BETA...personally I didn't bother with the Beta
of Vista...couldn't see much point.

Okey, how many versions of flash plug-in from adobe do you find for GNU/LINUX
PowerPC?
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
Yes, I know that there is no beta9 for GNU/Linux on that page, but to make it
simple for you, there is only x86 version of it, no AMD64, PowerPC, SPARC and
so on. I guess you will star claim that you can run any OSX program nattily on
your microsoft box.

Just because your stupid ass snipped it out doesn't mean it wasn't

Well considering the fact that I just tested it out on Cluster Knoppix
which runs off OpenMosix and I also tested it out on Knoppix which
runs off Debian GNU/Linux and they both work fuckin peachy...yeah, I'd
say yer full of shit, Cupcake. Fact of the matter is...yer just
grasping at straws at this point. You CLAIM that it doesn't work WHEN
YOU HAVE NOT TESTED TO SEE IF IT DOES OR NOT. You're just making
ASSumptions which continually get beaten the fuck into yer fat ugly
head. Do be sure and let us all know when you ACTUALLY manage to test
the plugin out on a version of Linux in which it DOESN'T work, then
maybe someone will start treating you like an adult rather than a
snitting little 7 year old who needs a good spankin. You LOSE,
Cuppycake...now own the fuck up to it...or get the fuck over my knee
and start cryin again.

And the architecture was? We have the following official Debians
Debian GNU/Linux Alpha
Debian GNU/Linux Arm
Debian GNU/Linux HPPA
Debian GNU/Linux i386
Debian GNU/Linux ia64
Debian GNU/Linux m68k
Debian GNU/Linux MIPS
Debian GNU/Linux MIPSEL (same as MIPS but little endian)
Debian GNU/Linux PowerPC
Debian GNU/Linux Sparc
Official Knoppix are
KNOPPIX i386
For i386 you can use the x86 flash plug-in, but you CAN'T use it for Alpha,
Arm, HPPA, ia64, m68k, MIPS, MIPSEL, PowerPC or Sparc.
I have 3 desktop machines here, all with different architectures, but the same
GNU/Linux distribution, I know what I'm talking about, you do just bable about
things you don't understand.
Here are the links that describes the architectures, as I doubt you will
manage to find any information about those in any other way.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_architecture
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPPA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I386
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ia64
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M68k
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIPS_architecture
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerPC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparc
I hope you will understand that they have different instruction sets and
endians and none of them are compatible with each other.

Like they say on the WoW forums...
SCREEN SHOT OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN
If you've got boxen set up with all these different Linux distros,
well let's see some screen shots of this supposedly broken Flash...or
is a screen capture too hard for a retard like you to figure out?
Also keep in mind that for every screen shot you put up...I'm gonna
repost em to the Linux froups to ask for confirmation (cause ten to
one says your stupid ass just doesn't know how to set it up
correctly).
Also, why don't you try explaining to everyone WHY you would want to
use a Linux distro with an architecture that DIDN'T support Flash
(ASSuming of course your ASSumptions are even rooted in reality).

Okey, here you have screen shot of a site you say you have looked at the
source (you get that if you press [Ctrl]-[F3] in opera):
Opera PowerPC:
http://i13.tinypic.com/2e5hxmu.png
Opera Sparc:
http://i10.tinypic.com/2qlg6s8.png
But you will still not believe, as you think you can run everything on your
computer, so please run this binary and give a screenshot
http://www.bernstein-plus-sons.com/cgi-bin/yaya/decomp.cgi/s oftware/RasMol_2.7.2.1.1.MAC/RasMac_PPC_32BIT.bin
> If you've got boxen set up with all these different Linux distros,
You still not don't understand, I have _ONE DISTRIBUTION_ installed on
machines with different architecture. As the important part here is that there
isn't any real flash plug-in for other architectures than x86 when it comes to
GNU/Linux, regardless of distribution.

Go ahead, but keep in mind to mention that the screenshots are using GNU/Linux
PowerPC and GNU/Linux Sparc with the official plug-in from Adobe. But I know,
you will fail to remember that, for it would make you seem to like a fool, as
there aren't any official plug-in from Adobe for PowerPC or Sparc or most of
the other architectures I have all the time mentioned.
You could also ask Adobe themselves
http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/contact.html
> Also, why don't you try explaining to everyone WHY you would want to
> use a Linux distro with an architecture that DIDN'T support Flash
> (ASSuming of course your ASSumptions are even rooted in reality).
Why would people want to have a Ferrari? As they want something better than
the old T-Ford. All GNU/Linux architectures supports Flash, but Adobe don't
support any other architecture than x86. Adobe don't support more than two x86
based operating systems, compare that to the Mozilla projects that supports
far more operating systems than Adobe. Still, Flash sites limits access and
will never provide as broad user base as a well written HTML site will.
I stand firmly at my original statement, you still haven't managed to come
with something that would change the facts, all you have been able to do is
act like a kid and insult people when you can't "win".

so now you have met OMH.
btw, when he said earlier that he needed someone to translate retard to
english...he really meant that as english to retard - so he could understand
it.
look at his other posts here. he likes to bitch. when he doesn't understand
something, it is because of someone else's lack of intellect or
understanding. when he is shown to be stupid, he obsesses and throws up
strawmen...or just outright lies.
all in all, his behavior just confirms what i've held for a long time.
anyone who has to go on and on about how smart they are or how much better
they are than anyone else is typically more dense than others and have
self-esteem problems as a result - for which they overcompensate by being
perfect asses. those who are smarter or better than others in a particular
endeavor rarely speak of themselves as such. instead, they can't get a word
in edge-wise because others are boasting for them.
aho, i've seen your involvement in alt.php for a number of years...so i'll
boast for you. you know what you are talking about. you are helpful and
thoughful to others. you produce solutions for common and obscure problems
alike that demonstrate your abilities and show you are well ahead of the
curve.
now, i won't waste my time in listening for anyone to ever say any of that
on OMH's behalf.
cheers.

|

|
| And in you above statement you specifically said that it worked with
| Linux. Which is it? It either does or it doesn't? Perhaps that is why
| it is called a BETA version.
don't bother this guy with facts. he's just not interested. nor is he
interested in computers enough to know what chip-sets are, instructional
processing, memory storage, etc.. he's not really concerned about producing
anything that could be considered professional development...otherwise, he's
know that flash is not the be-all-end-all...and then, he'd go about learning
how to program from a reverse perspective. and that, where one begins by
looking at a problem/requirement and THEN goes about assessing which tool(s)
would best solve it/them. he'd also discover that what he's saying is
complete bullshit. he'd have a background of understanding all the problems
j. aho mentioned and how flash does NOT solve them.
he's just a troll with a huge ego-asshat...with nothing to justify his
over-estimation of himself, and only his behavior to demonstrate his being a
'perfect ass'.
cheers
Re: PING: Anyone who's good with Linux...or at least Postfix
Onideus has posted another thread here (cross-posted as well) where he has
been "searching and searching" and found that "hex conversion is some
closely guarded secret". He cannot even work out how to convert numbers to
hex !! This is even after looking at the ActionScript / JavaScript
'toString()' method that does exactly and claims its poorly documented
(translated: he doesn't understand it). He spends "HOURS searching the
internet" for what premultiplied RGB values are, saying he "can't even find
ONE reference to it" (Google comes up with over 16000). He was asking for
an equation or formula for premultiplying. Its just simple multiplication,
and he spends hours trying to find out how to do it?
Incredibly basic stuff. He claims to be a professional, but behaves so
childishly, ignorantly, and unprofessionally. He has managed to turn
reasonable, well mannered newsgroups (like alt.macromedia.flash) into cess
pools of foul language and abuse. I think it is better if we should just
ignore his rants, tantrums, and foul language and he'll go somewhere else to
troll and flame. I am almost sorry I even bothered to address his problems
in the other thread, now that I can see what sort of person he is.
So I ask everyone .. don't respond to any posts by him, at least while he
displays his current behaviour .. encouraging his posts is detrimental to
the usefulness of these newsgroups.
In summary, he's a very sad case who is best ignored.

i've got him plonked. i have to agree with all of the above...mainly, well
entirely, because it is true. did you see his further rantings about blogs
diluting valid search results? i told him to learn to use google a bit
better. he said (with much profanity) that no one here provided, or could
provide, him with a link. he then said his question about how to do the
'formula' was so over the top of anyone's heads that no one could answer it.
in his gawd-like fantasy, i suppose the two very good ones posted here were
lost on his infintesimle brain. not only that, but he didn't even fine (more
like understand) the clear explanation(s) given on wiki.
what a fucking goof.

Linux has had 64 bit support for years...

Yeah that's why it's good for rendering apps...well that and its
symmetric multiprocessing capabilities. An area where WinServer has
continually failed to compete against...although on the flip side
there hasn't been much growth on the Linux end of things in that area
for quite some time. See that's why I think Linux is going to fail
horribly, they're spending *SO* much time trying to be a wannabe
desktop environment that they're going to wind up losing their niche
as "the best" in various networking and processing areas as I don't
think it's going to be too much longer before WinServer catches up.
It's the classic tortoise and the hair tale. ^_^
