I'm just getting started with Front Page, but i'm no neophyte with computers.
The default setting in FP2003 is for layout tools to be turned off.
Following instructions, i clicked Tables and pulled up the Layout Tables and
Cells task pane. All formatting elements are greyed out, with no way to "add
a layout table" which should turn on the layout tools. Any ideas? i have
already tried re-installing FP2003 in case any tools were missing.

The layout tools are turned off by default.

How to turn the layout tools on

On the Table menu, click 'Layout Tables and Cells'.
In the 'Layout Tables and Cells' task pane, add a layout table.
When you add a layout table, the tools turn on automatically.

How to turn the layout tools off

Click the border of a layout table or cell.
In the 'Layout Tables and Cells' task pane, click 'Show Layout Tool' .

I don't recommend using them and if you do .. delete all the extra coding
after you have made them.

Thank you Stefan!!!! Trying to make my way through the first tutorial in a
book, Frontpage 2003 The Missing Manual. After 10 frustrating hours (I have
3 websites and an engineering degree) you supplied the ice breaker with a

Wish I would have seen this thread an hour ago. I've had FP2003 for years
and never seriously used it til' now and had no luck with the FP assistant
but here it was solved within minutes! Really wish I would've started in
this forum and with the online tutorials before I bought so many FP2003
how-to books. Will be checking here first before doing anything else in the
future! :)
