video output

Hi,
I've got some problems with my laptop compaq/hp nx9010 and the video output.
When I connect a projector to the exit of the laptop and, with keys Fn+F5,
force the output to the projector, nothing happens. In windows it works fine,
and if I keep the projector connected at boot time it works also in Linux. Is
there a way to force the video output with Fn+F5?

Thanks,
Luca
