Recreate IWAM and IUSR accounts, how?

Recreate IWAM and IUSR accounts, how?

am 14.02.2005 11:16:51 von Niklas E

My IWAM and IUSR have the wrong server-name after a rename of the server
after Ghosting so I want to re-create them with the new server-name, because
else two computers have the same IWAM and IUSR accounts.

How can you accomplish this? Can I uninstall IIS and re-install it? Does
this re-create the accounts as well or are they created during the Windows
installation? When is the IWAM and IUSR accounts created? When you install
Windows? When you install IIS? Sometime else?

Best regards
Niklas Engfelt

IUSR and IWAM Accounts Are Re-created When the IIS Admin Service Is
Restarted

Thanks alot. Then I will uninstall IIS, delete the accounts, install IIS and
everything should be fine.

There is no need to uninstall IIS, only restart the Admin Service (which
will be done if you reboot the machine, or you can do it manually using
the Service MMC snap-in).

Don't uninstall IIS. No need. It doesn't really matter if the IUSR is
not the real machine name it's just an account.

Dear friends,

I am having similar problem with the IUSR and IWAM user accounts

Our web server hosts a website developed in asp.net and also an xml web
service.
People from Network admin did some updates on the server and changed
the network domain of the server.
At that time the IUSR and IWAM user accounts were removed. And since
then server went down (website and webservice are not running)

How can we recreate these local accounts to have make the website and
webservice up and running? What will happen if I create them manually?
What is the naming standard of these user accounts "IUSR_Servername"
and "IWAM_Servername"?

Also Networking people say that according to company networking
standards, IUSR and IWAM user accounts can no more be the local user
accounts.
Instead they will be made global user accounts. How can we work out
with the IUSR and IWAM accounts as global user accounts?

Please help

You should always let system automatically create the account.
if you like to do it manually, make sure the account have all the rights
stated in this kb.
