Hi, everyone.
I'm looking for leads. My workstation is Clean, Red Hat 7.3 + all
updates, with Ximian desktop + all updates installed.
If I try and do anything clever - like run nautilus or access any of the
Gnome on-line manual pages (Ok, I was trying to figure out the rules to
klondike, but that's not important right now...:) I get a crash.
Instead of, say, nautilus opening a file window, I get a GConf error
that says:
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error:
IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
All further errors shown only on terminal.
If I run it in a terminal, I get a lot of this happening:
Eel-WARNING **: GConf error:
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error:
IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
and this goes on for a while, then a blank window entitled 'nautilus'
opens, then closes.
If I try this as root, I get no problem. I _suspect_ that this problem
is related to nfs / AMD; my home dir is automounted over nfs by amd, but
root's is not.
However, suspecting is a long way from having a clue how to approach
fixing (or bugzilla-ing).
Anyone have any wise words for me?
